Case Study Of Baby Ansh Raj

BABY ANSH RAJ IS SUFFERING FROM A LIFE-THREATENING DISEASE OF HOLE IN HEART

“I have heard people say that a mother can bear all the pain when it comes to making her baby’s life better. I would not have believed this had I not seen my own son struggling between life and death. I have infections from my c-section, it pains all the time but all of that doesn’t come into my mind when I see my little angel gasping for every breath he takes. His heart beats so fast and nights after nights I have stayed awake fearing the worst. All I can think of now is how to make him feel any better.” - Anjali, Mother.

Anjali and Mintu's 11-month-old baby has a hole in his heart and runs out of breath even when he cries. The only hope for him is an open heart surgery. The young parents are desperate to save their son's life but the cost of the surgery is a big roadblock for them.

Three days after their son was born, parents found out that he has a problem in his heart

The doctors diagnosed that the baby has a congenital heart defect called Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA) which is coupled with a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD). Due to the abnormal development of the fetal heart during the first eight weeks of pregnancy, the large vessels that take blood away from the heart to the lungs, or to the body, are improperly connected. This defect also leads to a hole in between the right and left pumping chambers of the heart. Unless there is a place where the oxygen-rich blood mixes with the oxygen-poor blood, all the organs of of the body will be deprived of the necessary oxygen. This would ultimately turn fatal without an immediate surgery.

“The day he was born, Anjali and I had thought of a name -ANSH. After two years of marriage he is our first child and we have made so many plans for him. I see him in the hospital and tears roll out of my eyes, I fear that all our dreams will be shattered if we can’t save him.” - Mintu Kumar, father.

Anjali spends sleepless nights at the hospital looking at his baby as she hears his heart beating fast

Anjali and Mintu's baby boy is very weak and is not growing at all. The parents are clueless as to how they can make their son any better.

“As I sit beside my baby, I see mothers happily leaving the hospital with their newborns in their arms. I can’t control my tears and often end up blaming my husband for this. I know he is trying his best but sometimes the mind does not listen to any reason. I pray to God everyday to make my son better.” - Anjali.

The family is going through a lot of trouble as they are trying everything in their capacity to save their Son

Anjali and Mintu are originally from Bihar and their baby was born in a government hospital there. However, the seriousness of the baby’s condition compelled them to come to Delhi. There they came to know about the open heart surgery. Mintu is a labour and earns only Rs 5000 per month. It is next to impossible for him to arrange for the 1.5 lakhs that is required for the surgery.

“I feel I have failed as a father. I see my baby suffering every day and can do nothing about it. All my savings are used up and I had to borrow money even to travel to Delhi. My wife is sick and I can’t do anything for her too. Never have I felt so helpless in my life.” - Mintu.
